I take the view that comments about politicians should be censored. Politicians should not receive any compliments, but only see the critical comments. The thought that their egos should have an opportunity to be inflated by compliments is unthinkable, if not terrifying. Politicians who expect only compliments are living in a fairy-tale.

There’s a widespread rise of authoritarianism. It’s not just in politics. We see it in entertainment, where the corporate overlords are free to taunt and ridicule fans who dare to dislike the product being shoveled. (Vis, Disney’s current hate-hate relationship with fans. Same at AT&T Time Warner.)

We see it with journalists mocking any voices that dissent from The Narrative on any subject whatever.

Social media mobs are another visible manifestation, but the social media companies are even worse. They collude to silence people so thoroughly that discussions of censorship are censored.

I wish I understood the underlying forces behind this authoritarian turn. Even more, I hope you’re right that the we’re near the peak of it. Maybe the intensity of the insanity presages its own collapse.
