I once owned a very entertaining book bearing a long title of which the last part was …..”And the Madness of crowds” I later read that originally it was ….”And The Madness of Krauts”. It seemed that the publishing committee being of an egalitarian bent felt that the content of the book demonstrated that the Germanic peoples certainly did not have an exclusive on the psychosis and the substitution made.

The” wisdom of crowds” often works when the members of the crowd are allowed to express a wide variety of opinion. The “madness of crowds” often applies when there is a lot of groupthink. “Educated” crowds are particularly prone to this on difficult questions where the solution lies outside the space ito which their “education” has corralled them.

Have you ever watched the clever bee, trapped in a room, repeatedly try to exit through a glass window, and obstinately refuse to explore the narrow gap through which it came? It seems to be seeking the largest expanse of light.

By contrast, the stupid fly zooms about the room at random and eventually finds the exit.
