Timeless blog post. Thank you for writing this. As an orthodontist working to keep my private practice up and running in the midst of udder economic and societal chaos, it was calming to read the wisdom of a no exit mentality.

The weather has become the biggest threat at the moment. It is destroying crops, buildings, infrastructure and sometimes people all over the world. In the near future you will be hearing about large increases in food prices and then about famine, plague, and war over resources.

I am one of the people working on solutions to this problem in the form of growing microgreens hydroponically indoors. On average Americans consume about a ton of food per person per year, and about 2% of that is fresh fruits and produce.

Like you, I have no interest in VC money because I can grow this organically. Plenty.ag is a VC funded vertical farming startup that doesn't seem to be doing much. They have a plant in South San Francisco and one in Oregon supposedly coming up. They say they will build 350 plants in China, but even though they have > $200 million in capital they aren't getting much done. I visited their headquarters last year and mainly saw a bunch of people sitting around playing with computers.
