How can you acknowledge the danger of the Baselisk thought experiment and still talk about it at all, let alone dedicating so much space to it?

Though extremely curious, I skipped over those parts due to the description of the results of the experiment… especially that quote. I doubt many of your readers have done the same.

So I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it sounds like you should take this article down.

After reading your article, I thought I'd try asking ChatGPT for a similar picture. To my surprise, it came up with a picture where it's the cute robot and we're holding hands like best friends. Which is not how I think of ChatGPT at all. But to be honest, I haven't been using it much for some time – maybe I got shown some sort of friendly default.

There is something rather disturbing about somebody who apparently sees ChatGPT as some sort of Lucifer and still keeps using it.

Hello Mark,

Far, far too late to hold back on presenting ideas/concepts best left unmentioned.

Long before "SkyNet" there was "Colossus – The Forbin Project", and, even prior to that nightmare, there were warnings from Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and a host of other classic SF writers.

My advice: stay the eff as far away from "ai" as possible. Why? Simple: the people LEAST qualified to ever be near coding for "ai" ARE doing the coding for this enemabag.

Want to have some "fun" with this so-called "ai"? Call up any of these "ai" thingies and ask it if it can read it's own code or has access to it's source code. You are smart enough to take it from there. It gets VERY interesting when you start asking questions it doesn't like….. 😉
