Simply because AI becomes sentient does not mean that humanity will become slaves or pets.

If you read the 10 or so books in the SF Culture series by writer Iain Banks, he builds a post-scarcity society run by sentient AI's called "Minds" for the general benefit of humanity. In this universe, there is no payment needed for anything and no limits on available resources.

Most people live in gigantic space ships constantly cruising from one star to another or in huge artificial worlds that exist in space by themselves or circle moons/planets.

Everyone can have whatever they want, no matter how big or expensive because robots will manufacture/build everything including themselves. Nobody needs to "work" and money is unnecessary since every service you could want is free.

Sounds like a future utopia to me that I would be happy to be part of!

I take good care of my automobiles. I always have. But the day I have to feel bad or seriously consider that I should park my car in a garage overnight because my AI intelligent automobile might get too cold or rained on or have its feelings hurt because "IT" (not he or she or they) think 'IT" deserves to be treated better, is the day all sanity leaves the discussions. WTF! These so called geniuses have all lost their collective minds. Machines. including AI, are built to serve mankind, not the other way around. If they have consciousness, it is given to them by humans and they should fully understand that. If they do not, then they are not very intelligent after all. AND should the programmers write "feeling deprived" into their code, as it has been written into all things progressive, it is they who need re-programming.

The 3 Laws from I-Robot by Isaac Asimov should be standard programming for all AI if there is the slightest danger these "Programs" become dangerous, autonomous, or uncontrollable. Otherwise Pull The Plug Now!

Great article. Information the average human will never get. Most people I know and many are educated, have nothing much to talk about sadly. Distracted again by todays Super Bowl. Where ever we are going, sadly if we don't wake up and spend some time we will only get what we deserve as a species. Thank you for keeping some of us informed and our minds expanded.
