I’m afraid no safe hardware exists. It all has back/front-doors engineered into it by the manufacturers. No secure OS exists, not even Linux. Open-source is a scam and provides no inherent protection at all – Copy.Fail and Dirty.Frag just proved it.

There’s very little one can do, unless you approach the situation as I have.

Expect them, and make sure your cameras and traps are all in working order.

– Don't use ISP hardware
– get another router/modem and flash an open source OS onto it like openwrt or something
– learn what all the settings do and tighten up the security accordingly
– stop using windows already, keep smart junk – if you must use it – keep it on a separate vlan
– close ALL ports on firewall in and out except that which you need.
– 'smart' devices ARE watching and listening to you.
