the imperfect creation – a world made by a malevolent diety… makes sense. But I think you
might want to consider the "technical elite" are really just ordinary folks who got their big chance,
because their big play, paid off. I think Luck – Goddess Fortuna – I think she controls it all.
The elite just won their lottery – every man wants to be top god. It's the human condition.
If you invented a real "disrupter" – a device that could use a quantum resonance effect to
degrade atomic structure – make atoms of mass disolve into plasma – such a fellow could
have great power. So, the "thought experiment" is – what to do, how to live? Use the power
for private benefit, or fix social and political evils?
The so-called "elite" are just guys who got their code working, or their experiment to run as
expected. When the "Italian Navigator gets his ship to fly, and the nuclear reactor right
and truly works as expected – and you hold the Big Power in your own hand – hells, bells man,
you ARE god, for real. And so, you have the real-god problem. You have the big moral choice,
and you have to make some Big Guy decisions. If you really actually did invent a quantum
resonance distrupter, which could vapourize a city from 40,000 feet, what do you actually do?
If you are not an evil, sadist, you might be concerned about some toadbrained political jerk
gaining control of the tech. Your only choice then, is to either burn your notes and destroy
your prototype, OR, take on the task of repairing the stupid world of ugly violence and
mindless ignorance.
The "elite" dudes are just the guys who got their prototypes to work, and then got funding.
Lots of the elite are mostly just smart guys who got lucky. The graveyards are filled with
many who were also smart, but their code did not compile, or their reactor stayed cold.
