"5G" phones operate in 2 specified frequency ranges. 1) includes traditional telecom/WiFi carrier frequencies, most below 6 GHz, including 600 MHz, 1900 MHz, and 2.4 and 5 GHz, with at least 2 new ones added to the range for 5G (actual range is defined a bit higher than 6, to 7.125 GHz). Collectively, this range is called either ‘sub-6 GHz’ or mid-/low-band (MLB). Some tech writers differentiate between mid-band and low-band, but it’s a fine point.

2) Covers “millimeter wave” (MMW), the higher-frequency range added for 5G to the original ‘stable.’ By wavelength, the MMW range is 10 millimeters to 1 mm (c. 30 GHz to c. 300 GHz). But it’s being stretched downward commercially in the US to begin at 24 GHz (even lower elsewhere).

In reply to Jaques Débrouillard. Doppler radar (NEXRAD / WSR88D) for weather detection works at 2.4 GHz. 5G for mobile phone applications operate at much higher frequencies. The big deal with 5G is that the cell node antennas are positioned about every 300 feet which means that telecom outfits / government know where the 5G user is within 300 feet regardless if their GPS is turned off. 5G also uses far less RF power (milliwatts), than the 0.6 watt RF power of most smartphones, contrary to popular misinformation, The 4G LTE, 4G & 3G phones by comparison are traceable to the cell site node only unless they have been hijacked by a Stingray system - which are being used by Sheriff departments to illegally track and monitor people's text and phone.

5G phones operate in K and Ka bands. Those are the same bands used for traffic radar, weather radar and some air traffic radar. This was why there was so much of an issue with 5G disrupting airliner safety. How much better will they be able to use 5G signals to surveille us all?

In reply to Martian Ambassador. The tin foil suit would make it even easier to locate you. You need to line your walls and ceiling with tin foil and your windows with a conducting mesh. That would prevent WiFi leakage. The downside is that your mobile phone would have to rely on Wi-Fi calling inside your house (i.e. no mobile signal either).
